Chelsea-owned youngster Armando Broja starred last night during a debut performance for Southampton – and some of their fans on Twitter were blown away by his contribution.
Chelsea have loaned out the 19-year-old forward this summer to a Premier League rival.
Broja marked his first appearance for Southampton on Wednesday with two goals in his side’s 8-0 thrashing of League Two club Newport County in the Carabao Cup. The teenage striker netted in each half before coming off in the 65th minute.
He did make a first-team appearance for Chelsea back in March 2020 in a Premier League game against Everton, which remains his only senior match for the Blues.
The six-time capped Albania international has made the loan move to St Mary’s to try play senior football and surely his midweek cup display will help his chances to feature more.
Southampton fans love Armando Broja already
A selection of Southampton supporters on social media were amazed with what they saw from Broja on his debut for them.
The Saints have Adam Armstrong and Che Adams as a front pairing to start in the Premier League, but perhaps Chelsea loanee Broja can be a great alternative. One fan compared him to ex-Saints attacker Graziano Pelle.
It was a dream start yesterday with a couple of goals and perhaps he can bring the kind of clinical edge they’ll miss this summer from selling Danny Ings to Aston Villa.
He’s still at the beginning of his career and doesn’t need too much pressure at this stage, but he’s looking for this to be a breakout year where he steps up.
Tino Livramento, who Chelsea sold to Southampton this summer on a permanent basis, is another player out of Cobham to shine this season.
