Chelsea loanee Conor Gallagher has explained that Manchester City talisman Kevin De Bruyne is one of the players he tries to emulate on the pitch.

Gallagher, who’s currently out on loan with Crystal Palace, is an extremely exciting talent on Chelsea’s books.

The 21-year-old deserves to be in the conversation as one of the Premier League’s top performing midfielders so far this season. He’s got every attribute needed as a box-to-box central midfielder, so it’s no surprise to see him nail down a permanent spot in Palace’s best XI.

The England Under-21 international has enjoyed some successful loans away from Stamford Bridge in recent years. However, it seems like his game is maturing at a rapid rate since linking up with Palace for the 2021/22 season.

Unsurprisingly, Gallagher has named De Bruyne as a midfielder he watches.

30-year-old De Bruyne has been pulling the strings as Man City’s creative playmaker for years, something which is difficult for Chelsea fans to swallow given he had a brief period in west London earlier in his career.

“There’s loads of players, obviously mainly midfielders,” Gallagher said when asked which players he looks up to and tries to emulate.

“Kevin De Bruyne’s probably the best in the league, his passing and his movement.”

Gallagher can have Chelsea future

For Gallagher, he’s ticking every box required to carve out a future at Chelsea moving forward.

The all-action midfielder needs to continue working hard at Selhurst Park for the rest of the season and everything else should take care of itself.

Blues manager Thomas Tuchel loves his players to work relentlessly out of possession, something Gallagher does in abundance with great energy and tenacity. In addition, the Chelsea loanee looks a threat going forward. He can no doubt learn a lot offensively from watching De Bruyne clips, too.

Gary Neville called him “brilliant” earlier this month after a performance against Arsenal in the Premier League and it’s exciting to see the upwards trajectory he’s following.

Is there room for two loanees at Stamford Bridge next season?

Gallagher and Billy Gilmour are two extremely talented midfielders out on loan this season. In fairness, Gilmour’s loan at Norwich is going nowhere near as successfully as the former.

It may be a case that only one can force their way into the senior squad by next season, so the race is on.
