‘Outstanding’: Some fans blown away by 20-year-old Chelsea loanee’s display for their country

Chelsea loanee Billy Gilmour started for his country last night in a World Cup qualifying match – and some Scotland fans on Twitter were blown away by the quality of his performance.

Scotland were beaten on Wednesday night 2-0 away to Denmark, but the loaned-out Chelsea man was a bright spark.

Denmark took three points in the World Cup group stage qualifier courtesy of two quick-fire goals during the first half. Daniel Wass, along with Joakim Maehle, were both on the scoresheet for a Danish side that reached the semi-finals of Euro 2020 back in the summer.

Meanwhile, Steve Clarke’s Scotland side looked below par until they turned it up a notch later in the second half.

Gilmour, who played the majority of the game, tried to inject some quality into his team.

The 20-year-old is relatively inexperienced. However, it looks like he’ll be a mainstay for his country for years to come.

Billy Gilmour will be back at Chelsea

Gilmour was sent on a season-long loan to Norwich City this year, so it looks seems he’ll be fighting a relegation battle at Carrow Road.

The central midfielder is a class act, though, most times he steps onto the pitch and perhaps the Blues should have sent him elsewhere.

He came close to scoring midweek against Denmark, but his real strength is the way he uses the ball and looks so comfortable to receive possession in any position.

The midfielder should continue to get exposure to the top international level in the Scotland squad. Also, he’s playing every week in the Premier League.

It’s exciting to see the kind of player that returns to Stamford Bridge next summer.

Here are some Scotland fans hailing Chelsea-owned talent Gilmour:
