Report: 27-year-old could return to Chelsea earlier than expected this summer

AC Milan could terminate the loan deal for Tiemoue Bakayoko at the end of the season as the Chelsea loanee is struggling to make an impact in Serie A, according to Calciomercato.

The 27-year-old returned to San Siro on a two-year loan last summer, having previously spent a season on loan at the club in 2018/19.

Bakayoko had repeatedly spoken about his desire to be back playing at the club, but his dream move has not gone the way he would have hoped.

So far, he has only made 17 appearances for Milan this season, mostly as a substitute, and had just five starts in Serie A.

He last played in Milan’s defeat to Spezia in mid-January and has not featured in the club’s last seven games since.

Calciomercato claims that the loan agreement between Chelsea and Milan includes an option to buy at €15million (£12.4m).

This will reportedly become an obligation if Bakayoko reaches 15 appearances of at least 45 minutes in 2022/23.

Unfortunately for the France international, it is unlikely to happen based on this season’s statistics.

Milan do not seem happy with Bakayoko’s performance, either.

The report mentioned that the club’s technical director Paolo Maldini will hold a meeting with the midfielder’s representatives with a loan termination being the most “realistic” option.

From Chelsea’s perspective, the situation is obviously far from being ideal.

As it stands, Bakayoko’s early return will only add another player to the list of those they will have to offload in the summer.
