Chelsea are currently preparing ahead of Saturday’s Premier League game at home to Burnley.
Thomas Tuchel’s side enter the league clash at Stamford Bridge top of the division against an opponent 18th in the table.
The Blues manager hasn’t been afraid to rotate his starting line-ups this season, something which is understandable given the strength in depth available to him.
Chelsea won 1-0 away at Malmo on Tuesday night in the Champions League. Here The Chelsea Chronicle is predicting there will be four changes against Burnley from the starting XI that lined up against Malmo.
Rock solid Chelsea defence
First of all, Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy is a shoe-in to continue in-between the sticks.
It won’t be a surprise to see Tuchel opt to go with his most experienced back-three to guard against Burnley’s two strikers.
That will mean Cesar Azpilicueta, Thiago Silva and Antonio Rudiger all stick in the XI after playing in midweek against Malmo. It will see club captain Azpilicueta drop into a centre-back role after playing wing-back on Tuesday.
Trevoh Chalobah is someone we’ve overlooked that Tuchel may not, though.
Three of the four changes may come in the Chelsea midfield.
A double change at wing-back looks like being the most likely outcome against Burnley, with England internationals Reece James and Ben Chilwell recalled to the XI after their recent goalscoring form.
That will mean Andreas Christensen, who started at centre-half against Malmo, will drop out. In addition, £24million left wing-back Marcos Alonso will be dropped yet again. 30-year-old Alonso is facing a mini spell out of the Premier League team right now, but needs to keep patent because he started the season so well.
Finally, N’Golo Kante may replace Ruben Loftus-Cheek to partner ever-present Jorginho.
Loftus-Cheek didn’t put a foot wrong against Malmo and would be deserving of another start. However, Tuchel confirmed French central midfielder Kante was only absent against Malmo because he cautiously opted to rest him.
Chelsea are likely to field a fluent front three that are very much interchangeable in positions.
Callum Hudson-Odoi looks a good bet to continue in the XI due to his form, plus Kai Havertz remains the only genuine option at centre-forward.
The fourth and final change may come on the right.
Hakim Ziyech did score the winning goal against Malmo, so may feel confident of remaining in the XI. But, Chelsea fans spotted on Thursday that Mason Mount is now back in training ahead of Burnley. If Tuchel wants to recall Mount, perhaps Ziyech will be the fall guy.
Predicted 3-4-2-1 line-up
Azpilicueta Silva Rudiger
James Jorginho Kante Chilwell
Mount Havertz Hudson-Odoi
IN: Reece James, Ben Chilwell, N’Golo Kante, Mason Mount
OUT: Andreas Christensen, Marcos Alonso, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Hakim Ziyech
