Since Roman Abramovich purchased Chelsea in 2003, the rivalry with Liverpool has grown and grown. Some of Chelsea’s most memorable goals have come against the Reds. Here are five of the best.
1. Jesper Gronkjaer – Chelsea 2-1 Liverpool (2002/03)
Not only was this a great goal, it was one of the most important in Chelsea’s history. On the final day of the season, the Blues had to beat Liverpool to qualify for the Champions League. Only the money from gained from qualification would save the club from bankruptcy. Thankfully, Chelsea won thanks to this goal.
2. Didier Drogba – Chelsea 1-0 Liverpool (2006/07)
Drogba was starting to become the great striker he would eventually be. This goal leaves you speechless.
3. Alex – Chelsea 4-4 Liverpool (2008/09)
A thunderbolt from the Brazilian free kick specialist drew Chelsea level on the night in this Champions League classic.
4. Eden Hazard – Chelsea 2-1 Liverpool (2013-14)
A stunning equalizer from the Belgian. One of the high points of Jose Mourinho’s first season back in charge at the Bridge.
5. Eden Hazard – Liverpool 1-2 Chelsea (2018-19)
One of the best goals I have ever seen. Drogba’s was perhaps more difficult from a technical standpoint but for pure brilliance and audacity, Hazard’s takes the cake.
