Two new signings and £71m man starts up front: Predicted Chelsea XI on opening day against Everton
Chelsea’s Premier League fixtures have been announced, with the Blues preparing for an opening day clash with Everton at Goodison park
Club legend Frank Lampard got the better of the Blues in this fixture last season, as an electric home crowd helped get the relegation-threatened Toffees to all three points, with Richarlison scoring the only goal.
This result was a catalyst to the club extending their untouched stay in the Premier League, while it saw Chelsea’s season end with a set of uninspiring results.
However, this time the situation will be different, with the two teams starting off on a brand new slate.
The Chelsea Chronicle has predicted the line-up Thomas Tuchel will go for on the opening day, with two predicted new signings involved.
GK and Defence
After another strong season, all signs point to Edouard Mendy maintaining his place between the sticks, so he will be a constant for the season.
Tuchel will elect to stick to the back three for this one, however it is here where change is first seen. Jules Kounde is heavily rumoured to be joining the Blues, so he’ll make his competitive debut at Goodison Park.
Alongside him, veteran defender Thiago Silva will start in what could be his last season for the Blues.
Trevoh Chalobah will make the move to the left centre-back role, as the Blues scramble for a suitable replacement for the departed Antonio Rudiger.
Reece James will look to build on an excellent season last time out as the 22-year-old will start on the right.
Ben Chilwell, who missed the majority of last season through injury, will be hoping for better things this year as he returns to the starting line-up on the left.
In the middle, Mateo Kovacic and N’golo Kante are preferred to Jorginho, with the aim to overrun the Toffees’ in the central areas.
Mason Mount’s glistening season will see him given the nod to feature in the ‘floating’ role of the front three.
Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele is heavily linked to join Chelsea this summer, and he will be handed his competitive debut for the club in this one.
Up front, £71m signing Kai Havertz (BBC Sport) will occupy a ‘false nine’ role, as he looks to return to the form he saw at the turn of the year.
