5/10 for Luiz: Chelsea player ratings against Cardiff

Chelsea came back from a goal down to comfortably beat Cardiff 4-1 at the weekend and here are the player ratings:

Kepa: 6 – He at least had the opportunity to make a few saves. Although he could do nothing about the goal, his body language still betrays some uncertainty.

Azpilicueta: 7 – His crossing improved today. This is probably due to having a genuine target man to aim for in Giroud.

Rudiger: 7 – Chelsea’s best defender continued his excellent start to the season. Quick and authoritative, he also stood up to the physical challenge.

Luiz: 5 – Bottom of the ratings. He distributed the ball well. However, a mistake or lapse in concentration was inevitable. Liverpool could punish these in a few weeks time.

Alonso: 6 – Got forward well and was not tested in defence. Again, Liverpool will target his lack of speed his lack of speed when they visit.

Jorginho: 7 – Metronomic in possession as usual. His presence ensures a lion’s share of possession. As the dictator of play, he could have injected some more speed into the play at times.

Kovacic: 6 – Tidy in possession before coming off injured. He needs to contribute more in an attacking sense as the midfielder with the most license to get forward.

Kante: 6 – Below par considering his normal excellence. He lacked his usual ferocity and energy after the international break and he can still improve his distribution.

Pedro: 6 – He wasted four good scoring opportunities. That said, he offers a unique threat running in behind.

Hazard: 10 – Top of the ratings. He was the only player at his best in an otherwise underwhelming team performance. He made the difference.

Giroud: 8 – His neat one touch interplay suits Sarri’s football. His claim to start regularly for Chelsea was strengthened significantly.
