Chelsea defender David Luiz has worked his way back into the starting XI under manager Maurizio Sarri and it’s clear that his quality in possession makes him a valuable asset to the side.

The Brazilian has always been extremely capable on the ball, which is why a pairing with Sarri’s possession-based style was always likely to be a good one.

He has been a mainstay in the side by playing every minute of the Premier League so far and has shown signs that he is more defensively switched on that recent years.

But the 31-year-old’s greatest strength is certainly his exquisite range of passing, something he showed to full effect recently in the draw against Liverpool.

Luiz has also remarkably completed six through balls this campaign already, which is the best number in the Premier League this season, as cited by the division’s official website.

He leads the way ahead of West Ham’s Felipe Anderson (five), while a host of players including Chelsea’s Jorginho have made four through balls.

It proves that the ball-playing centre-back has become a secret weapon in defence that has the vision to be an attacking threat too.

The Blues are now a much more fluent team in attack and Luiz certainly has the ability to pick a long-range pass over an opposition’s defence to Eden Hazard at some stage in the season.
