Chelsea’s rising star Ethan Ampadu is yet to make a first-team appearance this season, but did show his club manager Maurizio Sarri what he is missing out on with his performance for Wales.

The 18-year-old started in Wales’ senior team on Thursday night, as they slipped to a 4-1 home defeat in an international friendly.

He may have been on the losing side and seen his game cut short in the second-half due to a knee injury, but he certainly made a point with his positive display.

Ampadu is a versatile ace that can be deployed at either centre-back or midfield, with Wales manager Ryan Giggs playing him in the latter against Spain.

The teenager was in direct competition with some top-class opponents in the centre of the park, but still made his presence known and showed maturity well beyond his years.

He was a huge vocal presence in the midfield area and looked right at home as the defensive midfielder, where he was comfortable on the ball.

Jorginho and Cesc Fabregas are the two deep-lying playmakers at the top of the Chelsea pecking order in the first team, but there is no reason why Ampadu can’t slot into that role and looks ready for regular senior action.

He’s managed to break into the Wales XI on a regular basis and is an upcoming star being tipped for a colossal future.

Chelsea’s hectic fixture list means they will need to rotate at times due to domestic and European competitions, which is why Ampadu should hold hope of first-team action under Sarri.

A large number of supporters are extremely keen to see Ampadu get the opportunity, while fellow youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi is another just on the fringes of the senior set-up.
