BBC pundit has claimed Chelsea defender is “perfect” for Thomas Tuchel

Garth Crooks has claimed that Chelsea’s Cesar Azpilicueta is “perfect” right now for Thomas Tuchel’s side.

Azpilicueta, who earns £145,000-a-week (Spotrac), is the Blues club captain who’s been the epitome of consistency since his move to Stamford Bridge back in 2012.

The 31-year-old defender is extremely versatile, playing as both a right-back and a left-back during his Chelsea career. Additionally, he enjoyed a spell as a centre-back in a back three back during Antonio Conte’s reign.

Tuchel has decided to use a three at the back system since taking charge as Chelsea manager in January, which has seen Azpilicueta move to the familiar right-sided centre-back position.

BBC pundit Crooks has explained that he’s a great figure right now in the Chelsea XI to help the team adjust under Tuchel.

“Azpilicueta has found his mojo again and is playing with the kind of authority he had when Chelsea lifted the title under Antonio Conte,” Crooks wrote for BBC Sport.

“The Chelsea captain showed great experience when the ball ricocheted off his chest on to his arm but the defender did well to keep his arm by his side so as not to give away a penalty.

“The Spaniard has been an outstanding servant for Chelsea and the perfect player in my view to take Chelsea through this transitional period under Thomas Tuchel.”

Despite there being so many young exciting talents in the Chelsea group right now, they can balance that out with some real experience too.

Azpilicueta, along with Thiago Silva, must be a dream to have in the backline given all they’ve achieved in their careers so far.

There is also the likes of N’Golo Kante, Jorginho and Olivier Giroud who can blend perfectly with the rising talents at the club.

Azpilcueta moved to the London club just after they won the Champions League in 2012, but his team know they will be in the final of the elite club competition if they can overcome Real Madrid in the semi-finals.
