Chelsea icon John Terry reacts after Xavi Hernandez returns to Barcelona as manager

Chelsea legend John Terry has had his say on Xavi Hernandez’s appointment as the new manager of Barcelona.

Barcelona officially announced Xavi as their new manager on Saturday after previously sacking Ronald Koeman last month.

In the last few years, it has become a trend for club legends to return to their former clubs as managers.

Chelsea appointed Frank Lampard back in 2019 before being replaced by Thomas Tuchel in January this year.

As a fellow former professional who has also got into management after his playing career, Terry is clearly excited to see Xavi’s Barcelona.

“Things you love to see in our game. Good luck,” the Blues icon wrote on Twitter in response to Xavi’s Camp Nou presentation.

Terry looking for managerial opportunity

The former Chelsea captain left his role as an assistant head coach of Aston Villa in July in order to focus on becoming a manager.

Speaking about his decision, Terry told the media (via The Guardian): “My immediate plan is to spend some quality time with my family and, thereafter, hopefully take up some invitations to visit clubs and managers around Europe to develop my aim and objective of becoming a manager.

“It has always been my ambition to move into football management and, providing the right opportunity presents itself, I feel ready to take up such a challenge.”
