Thomas Tuchel has been given plenty of time to ponder over his next Chelsea squad before they face Manchester United on Sunday.

A whole four days separate the clash at Stamford Bridge and the Blues Champions League victory over Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night.

This brief break will give Tuchel’s team ample room to recover and restart their challenge for a Premier League top-four spot.

It’s, therefore, unlikely that Chelsea’s manager will want to make too many changes from the side that performed so well against Atletico.

Edouard Mendy should be given the chance to secure his fourth clean sheet in seven games.

Cesar Azpilicueta and Antonio Rudiger keep up their run of starting every league match under Tuchel.

Andreas Christensen also remains in defence, even with Thiago Silva potentially back with the squad following his injury layoff.

The Danish defender hasn’t disappointed when stepping into Silva’s shoes and deserves to retain his spot.

Marcos Alonso continues at left-wing back and there is a recall for Reece James on the opposite flank.

Chelsea’s 21-year-old talent has mainly been playing second fiddle to Callum Hudson-Odoi in this position.

Due to United’s dangerous front line, Tuchel may want some more natural defensive coverage down that side of the field.

Mateo Kovacic and Jorginho also keep up their 100% record of appearing in every league game for the German coach.

There aren’t any changes to the front-line, either. Mason Mount really cannot be dropped at this moment in time.

Timo Werner’s pace will certainly be a key tactic to try pull United’s slow centre-back pairings apart, so he stays put as well.

This does mean there is still no room for Christian Pulisic in the initial XI. The £58m (BBC Sport) American has only started once since Tuchel arrived and that came in the FA Cup versus Barnsley.

It would be brutal to drop Olivier Giroud after his spectacular strike in the week.

He is continuing to prove his worth, even if Chelsea is looking to replace him with Erling Haaland this summer.
