Chelsea ace Mason Mount has had a dig at Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos for his earlier comment about not losing sleep over Chelsea individual quality.

The 22-year-old helped Chelsea secure a ticket to the Champions League semi-final for the Blues with an important goal in the 2-0 second-leg win (3-1 agg).

Chelsea showcased their attacking qualities, having created as many big chances (seven) as Real Madrid had shots in the game.

But particularly since Thomas Tuchel took over, their solid defence has arguably been the key to their success.

According to Mount, it is largely down to each player’s willingness to put in the work for the team.

“We just give it everything,” Mount told CBS Sports in his post-match interview when asked about Chelsea’s organised defence in both legs.

“We’re such a tight group, we run that extra yard for each other.

“I saw one of their players before, he talked about how he doesn’t lose sleep over [any of our] individual, maybe he should lose sleep over us as a team.

“We’re so strong together, we defended for our lives and as you saw today, we didn’t give away many chances today.”

The England international was referring to Kroos’ comment about not losing sleep ahead of the second leg.

Although, to be fair to the Real Madrid star, he said “he had not lost any sleep in the last 15 years of his career” and only refused to “single out any Chelsea player” that worried him (via Real Madrid’s official website).

However, as Mount pointed out, it is not the individual qualities of the Chelsea players that the opposition players need to worry about, it is what they can do as a team.
