Thiago Silva has provided a recovery update on social media after Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel’s ruled the defender out of Monday’s clash against Newcastle United.

Tuchel has confirmed that the 36-year-old and Kai Havertz will miss the home fixture against the Magpies due to injuries.

Silva suffered a muscle injury during last week’s win over Tottenham Hotspur, while Havertz had already picked up an injury during training just before the derby win.

“It’s too soon for sure for Thiago,” Tuchel explained in his pre-match press conference (via Chelsea’s official website).

“We are aiming for Southampton and trying hard so let’s see if we make it, but we cannot promise.

“It should be absolutely okay for Timo [Werner] to come back but maybe too close for Kai.

“I’m not sure if [Havertz] is out [of training] today but he will be missing this match as well.”

Silva already back in training for light exercise

With the big Champions League tie against Atletico Madrid (23 February) approaching, Silva’s injury, in particular, might raise concerns among the Chelsea fans.

Fortunately the Brazil international’s recovery process seems to be going well.

“God is in control,” Silva wrote in an Instagram story along with a video of his exercising on a stationary bike.

Tuchel will be at ease, though, knowing he will have Andreas Christensen who has been performing well at the centre of the back three.

The Denmark international had to be taken off at half-time in Thursday’s win over Barnsley due to a headache but is likely going to be available on Monday.
