In a world where every former Chelsea player seems to be a manager, we could see Hernan Crespo plying his trade in the Premier League in the future.
Hernan Crespo has forged a successful and trophy-laden managerial career since hanging up his boots.
His journey caught fire in South America, where he guided Argentina’s modest Defensa y Justicia to a historic Copa Sudamericana triumph in 2020. He followed that with silverware at Sao Paulo, a domestic treble in Qatar with Al-Duhail, and a sensational 2024 AFC Champions League crown with UAE’s Al Ain.
It stands in contrast to his playing days at Chelsea, which he cut short in 2006.
Nonetheless, he joins the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Frank Lampard and Filipe Luis, who are all making waves of their own in the managerial world since retiring.

Hernan Crespo wants to manage in the Premier League
Speaking to the BBC, Hernan Crespo has made it clear that his sights are set firmly on securing a job to manage in the Premier League one day after his time as a player at Chelsea.
“I still follow the Premier League and it is the top destination. I am working hard to come back.”
This comes after Hernan Crespo’s second stint at Sao Paulo, where he successfully steered the club away from a relegation battle.
However, his 46-match tenure concluded in March 2026. Despite a strong start to the league campaign, a lack of harmony and knockout exits in the Copa do Brasil and Libertadores cut his season short.

Filipe Luis has followed a very similar path to Hernan Crespo
Filipe Luis is following a remarkably similar managerial trajectory to Hernan Crespo.
Just as Crespo proved himself with silverware in Brazil, Luis has quickly built a stellar reputation, averaging a trophy every 14 games during his impressive tenure at Flamengo.
His rapid rise even fueled his ambition for a return to England, where Luis was linked with the Chelsea job prior to the Blues appointing Xabi Alonso this summer.
