Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that James Milner won’t be available to play for his side against Chelsea on Saturday.

Chelsea visit Anfield on Saturday evening for an enthralling Premier League fixture between teams that have both won their opening two games of the season.

Klopp has revealed that 35-year-old midfielder Milner won’t face Chelsea this weekend because of an injury problem.

“Millie will not be ready – I think that’s it pretty much,” Klopp said

Milner played 90 minutes in Liverpool’s win over Norwich City in their season opener, but was sidelined due to a knock in last weekend’s match against Burnley.

The £140,000-a-week player’s absence on Saturday gives Chelsea a slight clue about how opponents Liverpool will line up in the centre of the park.

Jordan Henderson, Naby Keith and Harvey Elliott started in midfield during the previous match, but there is also Thiago available to them to bring into the XI.

The midfield battle is going to be pivotal this weekend and losing Milner’s know-how could be a blow to the Merseyside giants.

Meanwhile, Chelsea can rely on some of the best midfielders in the world. N’Golo Kante and Jorginho are two central midfielders that Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel can call upon, along with in-form Mateo Kovacic.

This looks like a match for either side to throw down a real marker to reinforce their title aspirations, so you’d expect the two Manchester clubs to be watching very closely.
