Juventus star Weston McKennie said he hopes that Christian Pulisic can help instil winning mentality in the USMNT squad after the Champions League triumph with Chelsea.
It seems that Pulisic will not have much time to rest after the Champions League final victory on Saturday.
He will now have to shift his attention to his national team, earlier than most of his Chelsea teammates.
The 22-year-old already missed out on USMNT’s 2-1 friendly defeat to Switzerland last Sunday while he was busy with the Champions League final.
But USMNT head coach Gregg Berhalter has confirmed that Pulisic is eager to be back with the national team for the CONCACAF Nations League semi-final tie against Honduras on Thursday.
“Try to tell Christian that he’s not playing on Thursday, and it’s gonna be a very difficult one,” Berhalter said in his post-match press conference on Sunday.
“Coming off of winning the Champions League, coming in the game making an impact in that in that game, he’s ready to go.
“It would be very hard to keep him out of the line-up.”
Pulisic will bring ‘winning mentality’ to USMNT, says McKennie
Pulisic’s arrival will certainly be welcomed by his teammates, including McKennie who hopes to learn from the winger’s Champions League experience.
“I think Christian coming back being fit, coming off the high of winning the Champions League will be important,” said the Juventus midfielder during his press conference.
“[He] will be able to bring that mentality over here [to the USMNT camp] because we’re all working towards what they accomplished the other night.
“When someone wins a trophy, it just helps the group realise that we want to have winning mentality to win games and trophies.
“We’ll be happy to have him back, and I think he’ll be able to share some of his experiences as well and have it rub off on us.”
