Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers was full of praise for Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell and hopes he will not see the defender score with his “fantastic” left foot at the weekend.
Chilwell has scored three goals in the Premier League this season, with only fellow wing-back Reece James having scored more (four) than him at Chelsea.
As Thomas Tuchel previously pointed out, these two wide players have become Chelsea’s “permanent goal threats”.
According to Rodgers, playing in a back-three system really complements Chilwell’s ability to make runs into the box.
“He was a very talented player and a great boy to work with when he was here,” the Leicester City boss said during his pre-match press conference on Thursday.
“It always takes a little bit of time when you’re going [to a new club], I said that to him before he left.
“But there is no doubting his talent, he’s had the mentality, and he’s a really, really good player.
“He’s playing in a more advanced position, and it allows him to get in there. He’s got good legs, good energy, so he can arrive in the box.
“And he’s got a fantastic left foot, so hopefully we don’t see that at the weekend, but I always wish him well.”
His impressive form aside, Chilwell has certainly showcased his elite mentality in the last few months.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek even recently praised how the defender reacted to losing his spot in the team at the start of the season.
