Report: Chelsea starlet Livramento could play against Morecambe amid James' injury concern

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard is reportedly reluctant to risk playing Reece James in the FA Cup tie against Morecambe. This could pave the way for academy star Valentino Livramento.

James who has been Lampard’s first-choice right back this season missed out on the last two games due to hamstring injury.

Cesar Azpilicueta is practically the only option for the position among the senior squad, but Lampard could reportedly give academy star Livramento his senior debut on Sunday.

The 18-year-old has been training with the first-team squad, along with several other academy players.

And according to a report from The Athletic, there is a “real possibility” Livramento could play against Morecambe since James is unlikely to be risked.

The young fullback has had an impressive season, bagging eight assists and two goals from just 14 appearances in all competition with the development squad so far (Transfermarkt).

The Athletic’s report further added that the teenager is being considered as a potential loan target among scouts of lower league clubs.

Chelsea, however, are reportedly also considering the right-back as a potential future replacement for Cesar Azpilicueta who is already showing signs of age.

If the report is true, Sunday’s game will be a perfect opportunity for Livramento to impress both Lampard and Chelsea hierarchy over his long-term future at Chelsea.
