Some Chelsea fans on social media were in agreement that Romelu Lukaku should replace Jorginho as the designated penalty taker ahead of his reported imminent move.
These fans seem quite optimistic that the 28-year-old will eventually sign for Chelsea, despite the lack of any official confirmation so far.
Though, given Lukaku’s absence in Inter Milan’s friendly win over Parma on Sunday, as well as the latest reports, why should they not be optimistic?
Some Chelsea fans on Twitter have even discussed the possibility of having Lukaku as the new penalty taker for the new season.
Some argued that Lukaku’s record, 20 goals from the spots in the last two seasons, makes him the best candidate for the role.
On the other hand, Jorginho has missed a few penalties last season, despite still having a relatively very good success rate.
A few others pointed out how taking penalties would only help strikers gain more confidence.
This is certainly a fair point since even Timo Werner spoke about it last season and even expressed his desire to become the designated penalty taker.
Jorginho kept his role, in the end, and topped Chelsea’s goalscoring charts in the Premier League with seven penalty goals.
Thomas Tuchel has plenty of penalty taker options at his disposal, including Kai Havertz, Hakim Ziyech, and Mason Mount.
The Chelsea manager will eventually have to make his decision, but the consensus among Chelsea fans on Twitter is that Lukaku should take over the role, if and when he arrives at Stamford Bridge.
