The agent of Andre Onana, Albert Botines, has claimed that Chelsea held meetings with Inter Milan over potentially signing the goalkeeper.
He told CalcioMercato that there was a strong interest from Stamford Bridge before Manchester United stepped up their efforts and eventually signed him.
Last night saw Onana make his debut for his new club, although the £47m man was on the wrong end of a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Real Madrid.

Meanwhile, it looks as if Mauricio Pochettino is convinced by starting Kepa Arrizabalaga as his number one next season, after he broke back into the team last season.
Not all supporters will agree with this, and many pointed to the Cameroon international as a potential upgrade.
Chelsea had meetings with Onana
Botines has now claimed that the club were certainly considering this, even holding a meeting with the player before he joined United.
He said: “It all started a few months ago – begins the prosecutor -. Towards April, many inquired about the player. Tottenham have asked for information; Chelsea have had a very strong interest.

“There were meetings in London and Chelsea also met with Inter, but ten Hag was key. We are looking forward to facing great managers like Guardiola and trying to win titles with Manchester United. We have a great desire to rock.”
Talk over a new goalkeeper at Stamford Bridge has not completely disappeared. However, it has been claimed that a deal for AC Milan number one Mike Maignan would be too expensive.
There may be an appetite to look closer to home to strengthen the position. It is likely that for the right price both David Raya and Robert Sanchez are available to be signed.
