Azpilicueta comments on how Chelsea will deal with 'quality' Liverpool forwards

Cesar Azpilicueta remains confident despite admitting that “quality” Liverpool forwards may cause problems for Chelsea defenders in Sunday’s Carabao Cup final.

The last two meetings between the two sides ended in draws, they were a lot of end-to-end stuff on both occasions.

There were six goals and 22 shots on targets combined in those games.

Another open game may not be ideal for Chelsea this time, given Liverpool’s recent goalscoring form, but Azpilicueta insisted that Chelsea forwards can also hurt Liverpool.

“It’s a game that, I think, everybody likes to watch because we’re two teams that will bring a lot of intensity and have quality up front,” the Spain international told Sky Sports when asked about how they will set up against in-form Liverpool forwards.

“We have to test them as well defensively.

“I think the key for Sunday’s game is to defend as a team and defend well.

“Of course, they can create problems [for us] because they have quality players, but we [will] try to reduce [them] as much as we can.

“Then, I think we have quality players up front to create problems [for them] as well, to create chances.”

Fortunately for Chelsea, several of their forwards have also started hitting their form recently.

According to Thomas Tuchel, Kai Havertz and Christian Pulisic have stepped up significantly in the last couple of weeks.

Obviously, the Blues will still have to deal with the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, and possibly even Diogo Jota in the final.

Salah, in particular, has had four goals and an assist in his last four games.

Interestingly, Joe Cole recently said that he is confident that Antonio Rudiger’s presence will help Chelsea nullify the Egypt international’s threats.
