Ben Chilwell reacts to Chelsea's 6-0 win over Southampton

Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell sent a message to his teammates after the convincing 6-0 Premier League win over Southampton on Saturday.

Thomas Tuchel wanted a response from his squad following back-to-back home defeats last week and the players did it in an emphatic fashion.

All three of his starting forwards; Timo Werner, Mason Mount, and Kai Havertz, got on the scoresheet, and, more importantly, Chelsea kept a clean sheet after recent disappointing defensive displays.

Chilwell was clearly impressed.

“Great response today!” the England international wrote on Twitter.

“Let’s bring it Tuesday boys!”

The win will be a huge confidence boost for Chelsea ahead of their trip to Santiago Bernabeu for the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final tie.

Tuchel described the Real Madrid tie as “almost over” after losing 3-1 at home last week, but overcoming a two-goal deficit certainly looks more possible now.

The only downside is perhaps that Tuchel had to field a stronger eleven than he would have liked to secure the important three points.

Although, the likes of Mount, Reece James, and Thiago Silva did not play the full 90 minutes.

Chilwell, on the other hand, will have to support his teammates from the sidelines after being ruled out of the season due to a cruciate ligament injury.

Cesar Azpilicueta, who tested positive for Covid-19 and was absent against Southampton, will likely miss the Real Madrid game as well.
