Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah believes his versatility can help him cement his spot in the team under Graham Potter.

It is safe to say Chalobah has made a very good case for his becoming a regular starter in Potter’s early spell at the club.

After missing out on the first couple of games under the new manager, the 23-year-old has played every minute since his appearance as a substitute in the first win over AC Milan earlier this month.

Wesley Fofana’s injury absence may have played a part, but Chalobah has clearly grabbed his chances.

In Wednesday’s 0-0 draw with Brentford, Potter even trusted him to play in the middle of Chelsea’s back three, an important role usually given to Thiago Silva.

“I think [versatility] is very important. He [Potter] changes formation and players a lot,” he explained to Chelsea TV when asked about playing in a new position.

“I want to be available in every position.”

Chelsea have managed to keep five consecutive clean sheets while being able to rest Silva in between games, which is huge.

Chalobah has also proved to be solid in a back four which allows Potter to be more flexible with his tactics.
