'I feel': Conor Gallagher says Chelsea teammate is the world's very best in his position

Conor Gallagher thinks Chelsea teammate N’Golo Kante is still the best midfielder in the world.

Kante, 31, definitely belongs in the conversation of the best midfielders from the past decade. At the peak of his powers, the French running machine was such an effective all-action central midfielder.

However, even Chelsea supporters may struggle to put the Blues star in the elite category of current midfielders.

He’s had a stop-start time due to injuries since the start of the previous season, so every time he picks up momentum it feels like he’s sidelined.

The France international is unfortunately not involved with his country at the World Cup and hasn’t played a competitive game of football since August.

Kante the best in the world

Chelsea midfielder Gallagher, 22, must be delighted to share a dressing room now with Kante. He will have actually seen very little of him because of his hamstring injury, though.

The Blues youngster believes his experienced counterpart is still the best around when he’s available.

When asked about Thomas Tuchel comparing him to Kante, Gallagher said: “When he said it, it did make me laugh and surprise me a little bit.

“It’s obviously a massive compliment, even if I’m half the player Kante is because I feel like he’s the best midfielder in the world, probably still now when he’s fit.

“We are obviously different players. He probably gets around a bit more than me, he’s a bit sharper than me. So yeah, we’re different players.”

Hopefully, Kante can still come back in the Chelsea side post-injury and get back to his best.

The fear for supporters is that his time at Stamford Bridge may be ending soon because his contract expires next summer.

La Repubblica claims that Juventus and Inter Milan are actually eyeing a potential move for Kante in January.

In our view, Kevin de Bruyne currently takes the crown for the world’s best in the centre of the park.
