‘I’m really delighted’: Chelsea player says he’s so glad he didn’t leave now after Club World Cup win

Callum Hudson-Odoi has said he’s “really delighted” that he stayed with Chelsea this season after winning the Club World Cup at the weekend.

Hudson-Odoi, who was linked with a loan to Borussia Dortmund last summer, ended up remaining at Stamford Bridge.

The 21-year-old’s been in and out of Thomas Tuchel’s Blues XI so far this season, making 27 appearances across all competitions.

He’s a lightning quick attacker that prefers to play as a traditional winger, but his versatility has seen him drop in at wing-back on a few occasions to help out.

The English speedster has three goals and six assists in total this season, including a brilliant assist with his cross for Romelu Lukaku’s header in the Club World Cup final against Brazilian side Palmeiras.

Hudson-Odoi has said in the aftermath of Chelsea’s latest trophy success that he’s delighted to have stayed with the squad this season.

“If I went out in the summer I wouldn’t get opportunities to play like this and enjoy the games and win trophies. So I’m really delighted that I stayed and obviously I got the opportunity to play,” Hudson-Odoi said.

Chelsea spot still up for grabs

For certain, there is still a room in the Blues XI available for Hudson-Odoi to try nail down.

The wide star has played a lot of football and is capable of producing moments of magic with the ball at his feet.

However, consistency is the key to his game.

His brilliant assist with a cross into the box against Palmeiras is something he should be capable of doing every game, as it’s often so easy for him to get to the byline by beating opposition full-backs. He needs to find a better end product to live up to the hype that’s been building since he first came through the academy.
