Joao Felix insisted that he and his Chelsea teammates deserved a win against Everton on Saturday as he spoke about costly “errors” in the 2-2 draw.

The Blues were ahead twice in the game but lost their leads despite dominating 69 per cent of the ball throughout the game.

They could have been just nine points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur with a game in hand, but securing a Champions League spot has now become even more unlikely with just 11 matches to play.

Felix, who scored the opener, however, argued that it was an overall team performance.

“We felt we deserved the three points,” the Portugal international told Chelsea’s official website.

“We did a great match. We are back. The team are playing good in my opinion.

“We just need to fix some errors. That happens.

“The team is playing with more confidence. We are confident about the games we have ahead.

“We need to keep working and fix some mistakes we did during the game.”

In fairness, Chelsea rarely make big defensive mistakes this season.

According to Opta, they have had the joint-second fewest errors leading to goals (3) in the Premier League so far.

Although bear in mind that, neither of Everton’s two goals was deemed as a result of a clear error, but rather a poor positioning and goalkeeping.

The lack of clinical finishing arguably played a big part, too, since if Chelsea managed to convert any of their chances in the first half, they would not have been under so much pressure with just a one-goal lead in the last minutes of the game.
