Reece James now sends passionate message to Chelsea fans on Instagram after Real Madrid defeat

Reece James has sent a passionate message to Chelsea fans on Instagram in the aftermath of the 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid.

The Blues have now become big underdogs to reach the Champions League semi-finals after losing at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.

Unfortunately, Thomas Tuchel’s side were beaten 3-1 by Madrid in the first leg of the quarter-final tie. Karim Benzema’s hat-trick compiled a miserable week for Chelsea.

It means the Premier League side have so much work to do next Tuesday when they travel to Madrid for the second leg, but they’ve got a league match with Southampton to navigate first.

Blues wing-back James, who played 90 minutes against Madrid, has uploaded a heartfelt message aimed towards supporters. The 22-year-old England international suggests the two-legged tie is far from over yet.

“The toughest defeats are usually the biggest lessons. In life and football mistakes happen, it’s how you react that’s most important. Yesterday wasn’t our night. We left it all out there and sometimes it just isn’t enough. We’ll pick ourselves up and dig deeper than we have before. With belief, courage and hard work anything is possible. The fight isn’t over. See you in Madrid,” James wrote on Instagram.

Another Chelsea miracle?

Chelsea have produced some truly astonishing results in the Champions League over the past couple of decades, but it’s going to take something extra special to reach this season’s semis.

The Blues must go into the cauldron of the Bernabeu next week and wipe out the two-goal deficit.

For certain, the first leg shows Tuchel’s side can create chances. They’ll need to be a lit more clinical in front of goal, though.

In addition, the floodgates have opened recently on Chelsea’s defence and that’s a major concern with Benzema sniffing around.

Tuchel was very negative with his post-match comments after the 3-1 defeat, but with some more time for reflection maybe he’s ready to try pull off a great shock.
