'To the very top': Raheem Sterling raves about 'fantastic' player Todd Boehly is trying to sign for Chelsea
Bellingham, 19, is a rising star that scored on his World Cup debut earlier this week in England’s 6-2 win over Iran.
He’s a teenage midfielder showing superb form at club level with Borussia Dortmund, something he’s now starting to replicate on the international stage.
ESPN previously reported that Chelsea are interested in trying to bring Bellingham to Stamford Bridge. In particular, Blues co-owner Todd Boehly would like to sign him and considers him as a top target.
The Dortmund star’s stock will only continue to rise with more big performances at the World Cup.
Sterling raved about Bellingham
Chelsea winger Sterling, who plays alongside Bellingham with England, is very excited about the youngster.
He’s urged people not to overload him with too much pressure, but admits he can see such a high ceiling.
“He’s a fantastic player, he’s one that we’ve just got to let keep doing his thing and enjoying his football and not putting pressure on him,” Sterling told talkSPORT.
“I think he’ll get to the very top but we’ve just got to be patient and let him flow and as you see with club football and now internationally he’s doing really well.”
“I do think he’s going to play a vital part in this [England[ team and as you’ve seen the other day how comfortable he is in possession, how confident he is and the maturity as well, I think that’s something that surprises a lot of people about him, his maturity on and off the field.”
Bellingham, who could reportedly cost £135million, is a name on everyone’s lips right now.
For Chelsea, they can personally ask the likes of Sterling, Mason Mount and Conor Gallagher what he’s like on a day-to-day basis after training and playing together with England.
From the outside it looks like the Dortmund star ticks every box as a professional.
It’s always great to hear your club linked to potential superstars in the transfer rumour mill, but the truth is Chelsea may need a marquee signing in the centre of the park next summer.
With N’Golo Kante and Jorginho both out of contract at the end of the season, Graham Potter’s side must add serious quality in the midfield if the duo depart.
