Chris Sutton said Chelsea will finish above Tottenham Hotspur this season thanks to their squad depth and quality at both ends of the pitch.
The Blues missed out on the opportunity to take top spot from Spurs after the 0-0 draw on Sunday.
Spurs keep both the top spot and the two-point gap with Chelsea.
Sutton, however, thinks Chelsea have significantly improved at the back and deserve the credit for stopping in-form Spurs duo Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son.
“What is good about watching Chelsea from a Chelsea fan’s point of view is you don’t feel that they’re going to concede soft goals,” he told Stadium Astro.
“[Thiago] Silva is a real figure of authority at the back [who] gives them leadership.
“Harry Kane, we’ve bigged him up all season and Son, and quite rightly so, but they barely got a look in, so that’s a massive positive.
“There is a narrative from some of the English press at the start of the season about Frank [Lampard’s] ability as a defensive coach and I think he has made a point.”
While Sutton did not think Chelsea really “clicked” up front on Sunday, he believes the quality they have will help them finish above Spurs at the end of the season.
“You only have to look at the bench,” he added.
“[Christian] Pulisic who is a fine player, [Kai] Havertz, they do have strength in depth and that’s what they have over Spurs.
“I would tip at this stage Chelsea to finish higher than Spurs this season.”
