Chelsea striker Timo Werner has spoken highly of Liverpool’s strong defence but believes the Blues have what it takes to win on Sunday.

The 24-year-old is in search of his first competitive goal for the Blues and he would have that opportunity against Jurgen Klopp’s men at Stamford Bridge this weekend.

The spotlight will be on Werner given the previous rumours linking him with a move to Liverpool but the striker is looking forward to it amid the potential pressure.

He told the media in today’s press conference (via Chelsea’s official website): “They won the league last year and they have the same team as last year, so they will be as strong as last year.

“So it will be a really good challenge for us to see how far we are.”

The Germany international believes Chelsea have the composition to do well in the “next few months and years” but the focus is on Sunday’s clash as he praised Liverpool’s defence.

“We will improve game by game but now we have to play on Sunday and we try to win the game,” he added.

“Not only Virgil van Dijk, the whole defending part of Liverpool are also very good.

“They conceded the least goals in the league and it is a great team in every position.

“But we also have great players and we have the quality to beat them. It will be an interesting game.”
