'A level below': Jamie Carragher says 29-year-old Chelsea player is not as good as Tottenham star

Jamie Carragher claims Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku is below Tottenham’s Harry Kane when comparing the two centre-forwards.

Lukaku, who cost the Blues a club-record £97.5million last summer, is a top striker that’s scored goals everywhere he’s gone.

However, he’s had an underwhelming first season back at Chelsea this year, albeit he still ended up with 15 goals across all competitions.

In contrast, Spurs frontman Kane finished with 27 goals in all competitions and 10 assists.

Carragher claims Lukaku is below Kane

Pundit Carragher thinks that Chelsea’s number nine belongs in a category just below the world’s elite forwards.

For instance, he’s put Spurs talisman Kane as one of the attackers ahead of Lukaku.

“What this season has shown me, and confirmed what I’ve always felt with Lukaku, is that he’s just a level below. When I think of the real five or six top centre-forwards, I do think Lukaku is just below that. I never felt he was [Robert] Lewandowski, or Harry Kane, or [Erling] Haaland, or [Kylian] Mbappe,” Carragher told The Overlap.

“What I’ve seen this season has probably confirmed to me that I don’t think he’s quite as good as maybe at times people have said he is or at the level of other top strikers.”

For Lukaku, he can’t let one disappointing campaign break him.

The Belgian frontman is still a proven goalscorer that’s not managed to fit the system of Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel, so a big decision needs to be made looking ahead to next season.

It’s been reported the 29-year-old’s agent now wants to meet with Todd Boehly to discuss his client’s future.

Stats are outstanding

Yes, Lukaku has disappointed a lot of Chelsea supporters with how he’s performed in the last nine months. He’s done alright to end up as the club’s top scorer for the season still, though (15).

He’s not got the same kind of technique as forwards like Kane and Karim Benzema, but his statistics are phenomenal.

The striker has 68 goals in 101 Belgium caps, making him his nation’s highest ever scorer. Also, he has 121 Premier League goals and counting in his career.
