Alan Shearer names one Chelsea star in his PL TOTW for a 'brilliant' contribution vs West Ham

Mason Mount made it into Alan Shearer’s Premier League Team of the Week due to his efforts for Chelsea during their defeat to West Ham United last weekend.

Mount did everything in his power to ensure capital city supremacy on Saturday for Thomas Tuchel’s team, but he was let down by those around him.

Mount’s afternoon

The 22-year-old sent in the corner for Thiago Silva to head past Lukasz Fabianski that put the Blues ahead after 28 minutes.

West Ham drew level from the penalty spot on the periphery of half-time, following a combinational mishap between Jorginho and Edouard Mendy.

Chelsea went back in front thanks to a masterful volley from Mount, who executed the difficult technique to perfection.

“Mount delivered the corner for Chelsea’s opener and then scored a brilliant goal himself,” said Shearer on the England international.

Unfortunately for the forward, his contributions were in vain.

Jarrod Bowen drew the Irons level once again before a freak Arthur Masuaku effort somehow evaded Mendy at his near post.

All three points remained in East London, whilst Tuchel’s men travelled back to the South West empty-handed.

Worse ways to lose

There is no shame in losing to David Moyes’ side this season.

Just ask Liverpool, who also lost 3-2 at the home of the Hammers earlier in the campaign.

Yet, it has put a minor dent in Chelsea’s title charge, as they dropped to third following their latest setback.

They have a chance for an instant reply this Saturday against Leeds United, but not before they face Zenit St Petersburg in the Champions League tonight.
