Arsene Wenger claims Arsenal are ahead of Chelsea in terms of Premier League title chances this season due to the latter’s inconsistency.
After the 2-1 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday, Chelsea now sit fifth in the Premier League table with 13 points from seven games.
It was a dramatic comeback win, but it was also far from a convincing one.
The Blues seem to have a pretty good chance to maintain a top-four finish this season.
In terms of winning the league, however, Wenger argued that there are at least two teams currently ahead of the Blues.
Wenger says Arsenal are ahead of Chelsea
Speaking to beIN SPORTS on Sunday, Wenger said that he would put Arsenal just behind reigning champions Manchester City in the race for the Premier League title as he highlighted Chelsea’s erratic form.
“Chelsea do not look consistent at the moment,” the former Arsenal boss explained.
“They have not found the confidence to [compete] for the league.”
To be fair, Arsenal are currently leading the league table and are eight points ahead of Chelsea, who have a game in hand, and Manchester City are on frighteningly good form.
It will take time for Blues manager Graham Potter to implement changes and get the best out of his team, but winning the league or at least a second-place finish is not exactly impossible.
