'At the training ground': Joe Cole shares how Thomas Tuchel is thought of by everyone at Cobham
Joe Cole has shared that Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is “universally loved” by everyone around the club’s training ground.
Tuchel, who celebrates one year in charge as Chelsea boss today, has made a sensational impact during 12 months at Stamford Bridge.
The 48-year-old has helped oversee colossal improvements on the pitch. For example, he helped guide them to winning the Champions League last season. His team are already in this season’s Carabao Cup final against Liverpool, too.
He’s a charismatic figure that speaks well in interviews, plus has a real presence on the touchline during games.
Ex-Chelsea player Cole has explained Tuchel is a very popular figure at the club’s Cobham training facilities:
“Barring Mourinho’s first spell, he has had the biggest impact of anyone managing Chelsea. He is universally loved and respected by everyone at the training ground,” Cole told The Sun.
“He is a breath of fresh air. Winning the Champions League is an incredible achievement but it is also about the way he has come in.
“Chelsea is a very successful club but it can be turbulent. A lot of managers can buckle under that pressure — even experienced ones.
“But the way the players have responded to him has been great. You couldn’t have envisaged a better first year in charge. Thomas is a very smart man who recognised the quality players straight away.
“But he also recognised the soul and style of the club; he understands the history of the club. He gets it.”
Chelsea very lucky to have him
Undoubtedly, Chelsea appointed one of the very best manager’s in the business when they welcomed Tuchel last January.
It’s been a seismic impact from the German coach during his first year in English football and he’s hardly put a foot wrong.
There is so much to admire about what he’s done on the pitch, with the introduction of three centre-backs and wing-backs absolutely crucial to his side’s success.
In addition, he’s helped so many different individuals raise their levels. Incidentally, Mason Mount has recently been speaking about how his own game has adapted and improved under Tuchel.
Of course, there is no hiding from the fact that managers at the Bridge don’t always have the longest shelf life. He’s such a popular figure around the club that is perfect for Chelsea right now, though.
