'Getting crazy': Frank Leboeuf reacts to what Chelsea have just done in the transfer window

Frank Lebouef believes the money in football is “getting crazy” after Chelsea’s latest action in the transfer window was to sign Marc Cucurella from Brighton yesterday.

The Blues announced the signing of 24-year-old Cucurella on Friday, who leaves Brighton after an excellent year for them in the Premier League.

It’s been reported the left-back will cost £55million and up to another £7million in add-ons.

He’s immediately become one of Chelsea’s most expensive signings, so there will be a pressure on him at Stamford Bridge to be a success.

One of the most attractive things about him is that he gives Thomas Tuchel a genuine option as a left wing-back or a left-sided centre-back in a back three. There’s no doubt he brings huge energy and enthusiasm, too.

Leboeuf on Cucurella joining Chelsea

ESPN pundit Lebouef explains that he’s an admirer of Cucurella as a player, but he’s a little shocked by the financial side of the deal.

“People are going to think I don’t like him (Cucurella), it’s not the case,” Lebouef told ESPN.

“It’s just I think Cucurella played for Getafe and Brighton, and £65 million for a player who’s 24, played like 30 or 40 games in the Premier League, I think it’s a lot.

“I think the world of football is getting crazy.”

Needs a fast start

It feels really important that Cucurella starts well in Chelsea colours to try hush all the noise around his price tag, which is something that’s completely out of his control.

The energetic defender was outstanding during his debut year in English football last season. Hopefully, he can now pick up where he left off last season.

His flexibility should definitely help him make the starting line-up more often than not, plus left wing-back Ben Chilwell is working his way back from a long-term injury.

The Blues are reportedly hopeful that Cucurella is available for selection today against Everton.
