Hargreaves says Chelsea desperately need their 'priceless' star amid recent struggles
Owen Hargreaves believes Chelsea have really missed N’Golo Kante’s presence in midfield amid their uncharacteristically poor defensive record in the last weeks.
The 30-year-old last featured for the Blues in the 4-0 win over Juventus last month in which he, unfortunately, picked up a knee injury.
Chelsea have since played five games in all competitions and failed to keep any clean sheet.
Kante’s absence is obviously not the only reason, but according to Hargreaves, it has still had a significant impact.
“He’s a human vacuum, isn’t he? He tidies up everybody else’s mistakes,” the former Manchester United midfielder told Premier League Productions’ Matchday Live Extra (via Optus Sport).
“Everything he touches wins; Leicester [City], Chelsea, France. Every team he walks into is a significantly better team.
“So, he’s the guy who knits it all together — he’s the one you need back.
“That intensity, the pressing out of possession, are essentially priceless for every team.
“Get him back and work [Romelu] Lukaku into the side.”
Fortunately for Chelsea, Thomas Tuchel has recently confirmed that Kante, alongside Trevoh Chalobah, is expected to return to team training on Tuesday.
While Tuchel was unsure whether Kante will be match fit to start Thursday’s clash against Everton, having the energetic midfielder as an option on the bench would still be a big help.
Chelsea have had some problems defending their lead during games, especially in the last few games, and the France international can certainly help with that.
