‘Huge potential’: Rio Ferdinand says teenager Chelsea reportedly want to sign is one of his favourite players to watch
Rio Ferdinand has given a rave review about the ability of England and Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham, someone who’s been linked with Chelsea in recent months.
Bellingham, 18, is a super young talent that’s part of Gareth Southgate’s senior England squad, albeit he’s still trying to nail down a spot in the XI.
Meanwhile, he’s a key figure for German giants Dortmund. The box-to-box central midfielder has three goals and seven assists in 18 appearances already this season.
Pundit Ferdinand has said that the teenager is one of the players he loves watching the most, citing the “huge potential” he’s got.
“[Jude Bellingham’s] one of my favourite players to watch at the moment over the last year. A fantastic player. A great character. Huge, huge potential. I don’t even see a ceiling yet to what he can achieve,” Ferdinand said.
Incidentally, Ferdinand’s comments come so soon after Roy Keane was left in awe of the Dortmund youngster during the international break.
Chelsea links to Bellingham exist
Bellingham’s performances in the Bundesliga and Champions League helped force his way into the England squad, so it’s no surprise he’s attracting Premier League interest, too.
Eurosport reported in September that Chelsea are keeping tabs of the rising star as a midfield target.
Thomas Tuchel’s Blues are stacked with talent in the centre of the park, including Ballon d’Or nominees N’Golo Kante and Jorginho.
However, Bellingham’s someone they’ve set their sights on.
In fairness, Chelsea have a strong core of young English players excelling in the first team at Stamford Bridge.
Bellingham recently said that he’s stared tuning into more Chelsea matches in order to banter Blues wing-back Reece James, who he plays alongside for his country.
