'I can see': Tony Cascarino confidently says 'fabulous footballer' linked with Chelsea move would be a success

Tony Cascarino is confident that Barcelona frontman Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang would be a success at Chelsea.

The Barcelona striker is no stranger to English audiences, scoring 92 goals across all competitions for ex-club Arsenal during a four-year spell.

However, the 33-year-old left the Premier League earlier this year to make the move to Spain.

It’s been reported Chelsea are ready to step up their interest in signing Aubameyang this summer. However, right now they only want to pay half of Barcelona’s asking price of £21million.

Aubameyang at Chelsea

TalkSPORT pundit and ex-Chelsea player Cascarino believes his former club will be pulling off a great deal if they sign Aubameyang.

In fact, he’s convinced that the African centre-forward would consistently deliver goals at Stamford Bridge. This is something fans will worry about given their recent record when it comes to signing strikers, though.

“He (Aubameyang) is a great finisher and a fabulous footballer,” Cascarino told talkSPORT.

“If Chelsea play a counter-attack style, Aubameyang will get goals.

“If Thomas Tuchel wants to play a certain way, to attack and punish teams on the counter, the movement of their players has always been exceptional, and if they add a clinical striker to that I can see Aubameyang getting goals.”

Could’ve used him tomorrow

Chelsea are yet to sign a new striker yet in this window, so they’ll face to face Tottenham tomorrow in the Premier League with what they have available.

In fairness, versatile attackers Kai Havertz and Raheem Sterling can play centrally up-front. Blues youngster Armando Broja is another striker alternative, too.

It is frustrating that for the second game of the season Chelsea are still yet to bring in a new centre-forward, though.

Blues target Aubameyang has an eye-catching record of eight goals in 12 games against Spurs.
