‘I coached him’: Joe Cole says Chelsea have let go an ‘unbelievable’ player who is now a wanted man
Joe Cole helped remind Chelsea of the potential transfer error they’ve made with Tariq Lamptey.
Speaking on BT Sport yesterday, Cole had nothing but kind words to shower upon Brighton & Hove Albion’s fantastic full-back.
Lamptey another big loss to Chelsea
Lamptey was in action last night against the employers that allowed him to leave the club in 2020.
Many debated Chelsea’s decision to let the 21-year-old join Brighton, as he was seen as one of Cobham’s brightest and best pupils.
WAYNE ROONEY TO EVERTON IS A JOKE.
Since that switch to the south coast, the relentless right-back has proved that even Marina Granovskaia can get it wrong sometimes.
He haunted the Blues on Tuesday evening, constantly rampaging down the right channel and making Marcos Alonso look extremely weathered.
The Spaniard simply couldn’t match Lamptey’s raw speed or energy, meaning the contest was totally one-sided.
Thomas Tuchel might be rueing his hierarchy for allowing the England youth international to be swooped by the Seagulls.
Especially as Cesar Azpilicueta is currently the only recognised right wing-back in the squad.
Brighton loving life with Lamptey
In an alternate universe, Lamptey could be the one firing down the flanks, instead of the slightly ambling combination of Alonso and Azpilicueta.
In the real world, it is Brighton who are fortunate enough to wield one of the Premier League’s brightest stars.
“Yeah, I coached him (Lamptey). He’s an outstanding young player, outstanding young kid as well,” said Cole on his former Chelsea pupil.
“One of those you will to do well because he works so hard and he’s such a talent. The only problem they’ve got here now is that the vultures are circling.
“The big clubs are looking at him because he’s come here and he’s been unbelievable from day one.
“It’s vital for Brighton to keep him because he’s such an important part to the way they play.”
Player in high demand
Unfortunately for Graham Potter, anchoring down Lamptey will not be easy.
According to the Mirror, Arsenal and Manchester United are set to challenge one another for the Brighton defender’s signature.
He is a wanted man, that Chelsea probably want all for themselves at the minute.
Sadly, that ship has sailed, with the horizon not looking so colourful for the Blues right now.
