'I worry': BBC pundit thinks another key Chelsea man could leave after Rudiger and Christensen

Chris Sutton fears Thomas Tuchel could also walk away from Chelsea along with several of his players.

Speaking on the BBC Monday Night Club, Sutton cast doubt over Tuchel’s future at Stamford Bridge following such disruption throughout the second half of the season.

Chelsea’s campaign curtailed in December, when they lost their place at the top of the Premier League and haven’t managed to retain it since.

A trip to Abu Dhabi ended with Club World Cup success, but matters back at home were about to get worse.

Not long after returning to the country, the Blues lost the Carabao Cup final to Liverpool, a result that would be repeated a few months later in the FA Cup final.

This first defeat at Wembley was quickly shrouded by Roman Abramovich’s decision to put the club up for sale, due to his ties with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who had just declared war on Ukraine.

Can it get any worse for Chelsea?

Abramovich then had all his assets frozen by the UK government, throwing Chelsea’s future into serious doubt.

Jobs were put at risk and the finances stopped flowing so freely, all whilst the various teams had serious on-field matters to focus on.

Nobody for certain can say whether the change of ownership has played a part in the performances of the players.

But it certainly coincided with some dodgy displays, including the 3-1 loss against Real Madrid at Stamford Bridge that ultimately ended Chelsea’s defence of the competition.

Humbling and harrowing defeats to Brentford, Arsenal and Everton compounded the misery around Cobham even further.

Despair that increased again after numerous reports yesterday claimed the sale is in danger of collapsing.

Would anybody be blamed for wanting to walk away from the project right now?

Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen have already made their decision, as they are set to leave Chelsea as free agents in the summer.

Christensen pretty much signed his resignation letter by apparently refusing to feature in the FA Cup final.

Sutton fears Tuchel could head for the exit

More figures might also join the two defenders, with Sutton suggesting Tuchel could follow suit.

“They are in a mess. There was an article tonight which suggested that the takeover could be in doubt, which would rather sum up where Chelsea are at the moment,” said the former Blues striker.

“You saw the Christensen thing at the weekend, which was slightly baffling. Rudiger is off, I’m not so sure Thomas Tuchel will be there.

“They are a club which are in a real mess this season. I worry for Chelsea.

“I’m really not sure Thomas Tuchel will be there next season. I’m not.

“Everything is up in the air. The uncertainty over the takeover, players wanting out,

“(Romelu) Lukaku is unhappy. It’ll be interesting to see whether he goes – will he be able to go?

“Who’s going to buy him with his form this season. It’s falling apart isn’t it?”

It’s not looking great, Chris, we agree with you on that.
