‘I’d imagine’: BBC pundit thinks Tuchel may give Chelsea player more minutes tonight v Watford
Mark Lawrenson has suggested that Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel may give Romelu Lukaku more minutes tonight against Watford.
Chelsea travel across London on Wednesday night to face rivals Watford in the Premier League.
The Blues are still top of the division table after the weekend’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United. They do now have Manchester City and Liverpool breathing down their neck, though.
BBC pundit Lawrenson thinks that Chelsea frontman Lukaku will get some more minutes tonight as he steps up his return from injury.
The 28-year-old Belgian striker featured off the bench as a late substitute against Man United, with Tuchel opting to ease him back into action after an injury problem that’s kept him sidelined since mid-October.
“I’d imagine we will see more of Blues striker Romelu Lukaku here (against Watford) after he came off the bench late on against United, and that is not good news for Watford,” Lawrenson said.
Lukaku return massive for Chelsea
In fairness, the Blues have coped well without their star attacker.
It’s been a real squad effort where goals have been flying in from all angles, but that’s not sustainable. For example, right wing-back Reece James has been in sensational form in the final third.
The left-footed centre-forward should bring the kind of clinical touch that’s been missing, but it remains to be seen on if he’s ready to start a match.
They’re going to need their big summer signing Lukaku to start scoring to sustain a title bid.
He’s got four goals in 12 appearances this campaign, which is why Blues supporters are eagerly awaiting to see him burst into life with his top form.
