Joe Cole confident Chelsea can stop Liverpool's Salah thanks to Rudiger
Joe Cole believes Chelsea can deal with Liverpool ace Mohamed Salah in Sunday’s Carabao Cup final with their defensive organisation and the reliable Antonio Rudiger, in particular.
It is pretty clear that Salah is the biggest threat to Chelsea’s League Cup hopes.
Not only that the 29-year-old is currently the most prolific player in the Premier League at the moment, but he has also scored twice against the Blues this season.
Obviously, Sadio Mane and Diogo Jota, who may still play despite injury doubt, could pose problems to Chelsea’s defence, but Salah is their primary goal contributor.
According to Cole, stopping Salah will not be a one-man job.
“To deal with Mo Salah you need a defensive unit, it’s not one player going up against him,” he explained ahead of the final (via Football London).
“Chelsea’s unit is as good as anybody’s.
“Whoever plays, the level doesn’t go down defensively because of the organisation.
“I’ve no worries about that, you’ve got Rudiger there, I think they’ll be fine.”
Rudiger has certainly transformed into an incredibly reliable defender under Thomas Tuchel, and as a left-sided centre-back, he will be responsible for the area where Salah usually operates.
A player like Salah is always capable of producing something exceptional on the pitch, but if Chelsea manage to shut him down, they have a pretty good chance of winning their third trophy of the season.
