Micah Richards claims Chelsea are the 'masters' at one thing under Tuchel, predicts League Cup final result

Micah Richards is full of admiration for Chelsea by describing them as “masters” on the counter-attack, but he’s predicting them to lose this weekend’s League Cup final.

Chelsea are currently preparing for Sunday’s final at Wembley Stadium against rivals Liverpool.

The Blues beat four Premier League opponents during their road to the final, including Tottenham over two legs in the semi-final.

It’s a chance for Thomas Tuchel’s side to continue building on their recent success, after winning the Club World Cup competition earlier in February.

Meanwhile, Liverpool came past three Premier League teams and a Championship one to reach tomorrow’s Carabao Cup final.

The Merseyside club are in some excellent form lately, and a cup success could help throw extra momentum into their Premier League title bid.

Popular pundit Richards has been previewing the highly anticipated cup final. He’s leaning towards Liverpool in his prediction for the eventual winner, which ties into the narrative that they’re very slight favourites going into the contest.

“The game of the weekend is at Wembley and I hope Chelsea versus Liverpool lives up to expectations. It will be an intriguing tactical battle with Jurgen Klopp’s team committed to attack and Thomas Tuchel’s side masters of hitting on the counter,” Richards told The Daily Mail.

“My gut feeling is that Liverpool will win. I look at them and see a settled squad with so many attacking options and their confidence is soaring.

“I’m still not quite sure what Chelsea’s best XI is and with those doubts, it makes me believe the trophy is going to Merseyside.”

Chelsea have the tools to open Liverpool up

Tuchel’s Chelsea are one of the few teams in the game right now that can really stand up to Liverpool.

N’Golo Kante’s shown he can dominate any midfield battle if he’s in the mood, so his performance may go a long way to swinging the outcome. Incidentally, Tuchel has been giving big praise to the midfielder ahead of the final.

A lot of the talk in the pre-match conversation has been about who starts in the forward line for the Blues, too. Kai Havertz and Romelu Lukaku are the duo battling for the central striker role.

Richards points to the fact that Chelsea are very dangerous on the counter.

For certain, the likes of Havertz, Christian Pulisic and Mason Mount can ask serious questions of a Liverpool defence that play a high line. Could it be a game to suit the lightning pace of Timo Werner?
