'No comparison': Harry Redknapp says 28-year-old Chelsea star isn't on Tottenham player's level
Harry Redknapp has claimed Chelsea star Romelu Lukaku isn’t on the level of Tottenham’s Harry Kane.
The two high-profile strikers are scheduled to face each other this Sunday, as the Blues host Spurs at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League.
First of all, Lukaku’s the Belgium number nine who’s a goal machine for his country and he re-signed for Chelsea in the summer to be their focal point in attack. He’s scored eight goals in 23 games so far this season in all competitions, which is a return that’s slightly underwhelming given the expectation put on him.
Jamie Carragher said this week Chelsea’s best performance all campaign came when 28-year-old Lukaku wasn’t in the team, too.
Meanwhile, England captain Kane has 13 goals in 29 appearances this season in all competitions. The 28-year-old Spurs frontman hasn’t been at his very sharpest, but has arguably been the Premier League’s top striker for several years now.
Redknapp has said ahead of this weekend’s London derby that Kane is miles clear of Lukaku:
“There’s no comparison between the two front men, Harry Kane’s on another level to Lukaku,” Redknapp told talkSPORT.
Can either striker determine Chelsea v Spurs clash?
Yes, Chelsea go into this weekend’s league fixture as favourites against Spurs. They’ve beaten them twice in cup games already this month and are imperious at the Bridge against them.
However, the role of each team’s striker is going to be crucial.
If Kane plays to his best, visitors Spurs will be confident of springing an upset. It’s worrying for Blues supporters to see him look back to his best in his side’s midweek 3-2 victory away to Leicester City.
In contrast, Lukaku’s in a mini drought where he’s struggling to impact games. It looks like he’s got the backing of manager Thomas Tuchel, though, so needs to deliver for him in a vital match tomorrow.
