'Outstanding player': TalkSPORT pundit claims Chelsea could make an incredible signing this summer

Andy Townsend has described Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling as an “outstanding player” amid current transfer links to Premier League rivals Chelsea.

There’s widespread speculation this summer that suggests two of England’s biggest clubs could do business with each other in this window.

It’s been reported Chelsea are targeting Man City star Sterling, who wants his future sorted in the next fortnight. The 27-year-old winger would like to know sooner rather than later where he’ll be playing his football next season.

He’s got one year remaining on his existing deal at the Etihad Stadium, so it’s up to interested clubs to show how much they really want to sign him.

Sterling links to Chelsea

TalkSPORT pundit and ex-Chelsea player Townsend thinks his former club could pull off an incredible transfer if they bring Sterling to Stamford Bridge.

He’s a four-time Premier League winner that’s been an important player for Man City across several years. The rapid winger could inject some much-needed attacking firepower into Chelsea’s squad, too.

“I think for Chelsea he (Sterling) would be an excellent signing,” Townsend told talkSPORT.

“He has never been, and never will be, the most accomplished goalscorer. His feet have always been a bit scruffy at times in terms of the way he goes about his finishing.

“I think he’s developed into an outstanding player and for Chelsea he makes them far more of a threat.”

Over 200 G/A for City

Sterling’s career so far at Man City is quite astonishing when you look at the numbers.

The attacker has 131 goals and 95 assists in 339 appearances for them.

Chelsea fans will forever be worried about signing forwards given their bad record in the transfer market in recent years, but Sterling looks an absolute banker to deliver goals and assists.

He’s been so consistent each year delivering in the Premier League, so Blues supporters should be excited about the prospect of this deal happening.
