'Perfect for him': TalkSPORT pundit really doesn't think 22-year-old Chelsea player should be at Stamford Bridge next season

Carlton Cole has advised Conor Gallagher to remain at Crystal Palace rather than re-joining Chelsea over the summer.

Speaking on talkSPORT, the former striker suggested that the best thing for Gallagher’s career would be to carry on his journey at Selhurst Park.

The prince of Palace

The young midfielder continues to take unprecedented strides as part of the Eagles’ flock, following his transfer across the capital last July.

Pundits, supporters and rivals alike are running out of superlatives to describe the 22-year-old.

He is the diamond in Palace’s treasure chest, a jewel they will be desperate to hold onto once the campaign concludes.

His signature is reaching priceless levels, something that Patrick Vieira must be aware of as the time to tie him down permanently approaches rapidly.

In a couple of months, a major decision regarding Gallagher’s future will be taken.

Should he return to Chelsea and fight for a place in Thomas Tuchel’s already stacked squad, or start another chapter with Palace?

Obviously, for those sporting blue, the answer is a simple one.

Come back to Stamford Bridge and live out your legacy as it was always meant to be.

However, this opinion isn’t exactly universally shared.

Should Gallagher stay or go?

“Obviously Chelsea are in a bit of a pickle at the moment,” said Cole.

“They need to round the troops up basically and see what they are left with and see what they can afford, what they need to do. See what the new owners want to do.

“So, there’s going to be a reset button for Chelsea. But for him (Gallagher) personally, you just want to carry on playing.

“I would stay (Palace), yeah. Whether it’s on loan for another year or get bought, it depends what the scenario is.

“He needs to keep up momentum. He needs to keep on playing because now he’s got into the England set-up.

“It’s perfect for him, it’s all set up for him. It’s just what he does now.”

When Cole puts it like that, staying loyal to Vieira is actually not the worst option in the world.

As he rightly mentioned, Gallagher has earned Gareth Southgate’s trust ahead of the World Cup, something he may not have managed had he persisted with Chelsea.

A showering of awards will almost certainly end up in his trophy cabinet at the end of the term.

Again, such accolades probably wouldn’t have occurred under Tuchel.

Of course, we want Conor to put on the blue jersey each week, but sometimes sacrifices have to be made for the ones you adore the most.
