'Probably': ESPN pundit suggests 23-year-old needs to leave Chelsea and join West Ham to start regularly

Craig Burley reckons Christian Pulisic needs to leave Chelsea in pursuit of more game time, suggesting West Ham or Newcastle United as perfect next clubs for him.

Pulisic, who has spent three seasons as a Chelsea player, is someone that divides opinion in the fanbase.

The 23-year-old is an exciting winger that’s shown in the past his quality when it comes to pace, dribbling and movement in the final third. His record of 25 goals in 114 Blues appearances is underwhelming, though.

It’s been reported that Pulisic’s advisors actually want to hold talks soon about their client’s future with manager Thomas Tuchel, as well as with co-owner Todd Boehly.

Burley suggesting West Ham for Pulisic

ESPN pundit Burley thinks Pulisic’s best bet for more minutes is to move away from Chelsea.

He puts forward West Ham or Newcastle as two Premier League rivals that could be a good fit.

“I think if he (Pulisic) wants to make a mark on a regular basis, he’s probably going to have to drop down one level. A level within the Premier League, whether that’s a West Ham or a Newcastle, whoever it is,” Burley told ESPN.

“You look at the game time he’s had, you look at the possibility of Sterling and others coming… I would be concerned about the game time for him.”

West Ham, who finished seventh in the Premier League last season, are a top quality side with European football. However, it would be a step back for Pulisic.

It’s obvious that he’s got the individual ability to perform on the biggest stage, but he’s striving for more consistency to earn the full trust of his manager Thomas Tuchel.

There’s certainly places up for grabs still in this Chelsea XI, so it’ll be interesting to see if Pulisic gives it another year.
