'Start to look very different': BBC pundit says there's another signing Chelsea could make to transform them
Jermaine Jenas has claimed Chelsea will start to be transformed if they complete the signings of both Marc Cucurella and Frenkie de Jong.
Since the BBC pundit’s claim, the Blues have actually confirmed a deal for Cucurella. The 24-year-old left-back’s completed his move to Stamford Bridge from Premier League rivals Brighton.
Meanwhile, Barcelona midfielder De Jong is still currently at the Camp Nou.
It’s been reported Thomas Tuchel’s side are in talks to sign the 25-year-old star from Barca and are growing confident of getting him, despite Manchester Untied agreeing a £70million fee.
He’s an ex-Ajax talent with a great reputation across Europe as a ball-playing central midfielder.
Frenkie De Jong next?
BBC pundit Jenas believes Chelsea could be in a much better shape with the aforementioned duo.
He suggests that Cucurella and De Jong, along with their previous transfer business this summer, could be enough to leave the squad in a strong position.
“There are still question marks over Chelsea, but if they bring in Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona as well as Marc Cucurella, then things will start to look very different,” Jenas wrote.
The intent is there
It remains to be seen how many of the club’s signings will come off and be a success, but it’s clear now the new ownership are at the very least ambitious.
Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, Carney Chukwuemeka and Marc Cucurella are four brand new players all integrated into Thomas Tuchel’s first-team squad. They also signed 18-year-old goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina before immediately loaning him back out to the MLS, too.
Dutch playmaker De Jong would be another marquee arrival if he does join Chelsea.
He would be another top-quality option in the centre of the park, who’s very gifted in possession and has a great range of passing.
Hopefully, the club are signing the kind of players Tuchel wants and can see working within his team.
